This corner villa may have been constructed for Archibald McGiven around 1901. Archibald McGiven appears in the 1902 edition of Stone's Street Directory, and is listed as living at the Belt Road end of Gaine Street. However, the 1903 edition of Stones Street Directory instead lists Mrs Margaret McGiven as living at the address - Archibald was killed by a train near Moturoa after trying to board as it was moving.

From 1905, both Mrs McGiven and John Nodder are listed as living in the same house at the end of Gaine Street. It is unclear how long Mrs McGiven remained in the house (at least until 1910), but John Nodder lived in the house until his death in 1949.

The last person to own the property listed in the Deeds Register is Frank Broughton - although he seems to have moved to Smart Road, so doesn't appear to have built the house. The certificate of title for subdivisions A and B of Town Belt A, was issued to Broughton in early 1892, with the sections likely sold soon after this.
