This house is one of several buildings (including neighbouring 412 St Aubyn St), constructed as investment properties for Mrs Annie Gray Wright in the Town of Ahoroa during the early 1900s.

The house was probably constructed about 1903, as in October of that year Mrs Wright presented to the County Council on behalf of local residents, a petition asking for South Road (now St Aubyn St), to be widened in order to "enable them [the residents] to get proper access to their properties". Later, in November 1903, it was reported that 60 yards of earth were to be removed "from the front of Mrs Wright's residence at Auroa [sic]".

The St Aubyn Town District Valuation Roll for 1908-1914 notes that Mrs Wright was the owner of lot 47 of the Town of Ahoroa, and that when valued on 31 March 1908, the property had a capital value of £335 and a house (almost certainly the current dwelling) was present.

Originally the cottage had a hipped gable roof, although this was altered to its present form during renovations in the mid-late 1960s; at this time some of the original sash windows were replaced with casements.
