This bay cottage/villa was probably constructed soon after this area was subdivided in 1900 - probably by/for Christopher Molloy, a recent arrival from Westport, who purchased this section (and several others) in Belt Road during August 1900. It seems this house was rented out, with Molloy residing in the larger villa at present 40 Belt Road.

The St Aubyn Town District Valuation Roll for 1908-1914 notes that Molloy was the owner of lot 8 of Section 4, and that when valued on 31 March 1908, the property had a capital value of £280 and a dwelling (almost certainly the current house) was present.

On the evening of Monday 20 August 2018, a tornado severely damaged the roof of the cottage, with the front of the main gable completely destroyed, and a number of sheets of corrugated steel torn off.
