This villa was probably constructed soon after this area was subdivided in 1900.
The St Aubyn Town District Valuation Roll for 1908-1914 notes that Marian Laing (nee Smith) was the owner of lot 7 of Section 4, and that when valued on 31 March 1908, the property had a capital value of £505 and a dwelling (almost certainly the current house) was present.
Marian was the wife of William Laing, and they were married in 1882; it is unclear if they resided in the house.
