A permit for the construction of a residence for the commercial traveller Edgar Haydon on Sections 13 and 14 Norman Street, was granted by the Borough Council in December 1920 - the contractor was listed as Coleman and Son, and the estimated construction cost was £3000, a very large sum of money for the time.

However, it doesn't appear the house was constructed immediately after the permit was issued, with the government valuation roll for 1922-37 noting that the property was vacant at the time the roll was compiled during early-1922. The most likely construction date for the house appears to be sometime during 1922-23, with Edgar first appearing in Street Directories for Norman Street in 1923.

Edgar Haydon passed away 15 Jan 1955 aged 75 years and 22 Norman Street is listed as his address.
