The 1995 NPDC CBD Heritage Study called the style of this 1930s home "Moderne". It is described as having "...strict geometric form with clean straight edges to the main volume of the house".
It was included as an authentic example of a Moderne style house and for its commanding presence on the corner of Molesworth and Hobson Streets.
The house was built for Mr S.K. Rowe, a permit being issued by the New Plymouth Borough Council on 18 October 1937. The builder was Harold Rowe and the estimated cost was £703. A simple hand drawn sketch plan has been located among NPDC records. It's possible the plans were drawn by the builder. Part of old town section 1369.
The house was demolished about 2021.
