This early bungalow was constructed for Alfred Bailey Kivell, and his wife, Ella Matilda Kivell, in 1918.

A permit was granted by the Borough Council to Mrs Kivell on 16 May 1918 for the construction of a residence on Hine Street - Boon Bros were the builders, and the estimated construction cost was £700.

Both Alfred and Ella are listed in cemetery records as living at this home at the time of their deaths. Ella died on 2 November 1923, aged 48 and Alfred passed away on 9 November 1945; both are buried in Te Hēnui cemetery.

This house was either demolished or moved off the site about 2018.
