This remnant of a World War II road block can be found just past the railbridge heading south on Egmont Road.
As explained in Kelvin Day's 2014 "Of passing interest" column (Taranaki Daily News 21 April 2014), following the bombing of Pearl Harbour in December 1942 a network of road & rail blocks were constructed.
More recently, local farmer David Sampson fortunately recognised the significance of this block and prevented its removal when resurfacing of the road was undertaken some years ago.
