This statue of playwright William Shakespeare (1564-1616) is located outside the eastern wall of Stratford Library on Prospero Place. Kaponga sculptor Roger Peters had the bust cast in Feilding for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival which ran from 14 February to 18 March 1998.
Rogers donated the bust to Stratford District Council on 10 February 1998 ahead of the official reopening of the library on 23 July 1998 following a $239,000 renovation.
Shakespeare was born in Stratford-Upon-Avon in England and Stratford was originally known as Stratford-upon-Patea. The town's street names have honoured the Bard and his works since 1877.
