The Waiongana-iti Stream Bridge was opened in 1906 and the event was marked by the unveiling of a marble plaque on the southern balustrade. On 6 January 1906 it was announced that Mr F.M. Grayling's tender of £737 for the construction and metalling the Rata Street bridge was accepted. (Taranaki Herald 6 January 1906)

In late March the Inglewood Borough Council granted Grayling a three week extension to finish the project.
