This statue of a 1914-18 Taranaki soldier was unveiled 11 November 2018 - the centennial of Armistice Day 1918.
It was created by the late Fridtjof Hanson and unveiled by Rear-Admiral Anthony Parr. The ceremony included addresses by Ahmet Ergin (Ambassador, Republic of Turkey) & Archbishop Philip Richardson.
The soldier is facing Australia as a tribute to the Australian forces as a part of ANZAC and overlooks the site of the former New Plymouth railway station from where many local troops departed during the 1914-18 War.
