This bridge over the Huatoki Stream on New Plymouth's Mill Road was constructed for the New Plymouth Borough Council in 1924.
Tenders for the "erection of a bridge, Mill Road, in reinforced concrete" were called for by the Town Clerk, Mr Felix Templeton Bellringer, in June 1924. This new bridge was to replace an old wooden structure that was beyond repair.
The new bridge was designed by Borough Engineer W. H. Cook, and the successful tenderer for its construction was well known New Plymouth builder Charles (Charlie) Roebuck - the contract price was £570.
The original upstream bridge rails have been removed and replaced with a wooden fence.
The original contract and blueprint plans for the bridge are held by Puke Ariki (ARC2010-165).
