Membery, Jeannie Lindsay (Grannie) - 1918

Jeannie Lindsay Membery was a victim of the 1918 Influenza Epidemic, who died in the Manaia Temporary Hospital, after caring for others inflicted with the disease. She was born in Australia and came to New Zealand as a child and grew up at the Ōtaki Māori Mission, where her father worked a farrier. The temporary hospitals in Manaia were in the Town Hall (for Pākehā) and the Technical School (for Māori).
