This bridge was built in 1907 by John Skinner, Taranaki County Engineer (1905-09) to a design by E.C. Robinson, Stratford County Engineer from 1904-14. The bridge has an understrutting in concrete which was up until this point, only seen in timber bridges.

The text of  the plaque on south-eastern abutment reads:
