In 1980 the Pukekura Lions Club set about the task of building an 18 hole mini-putt course at East End. The total cost was about $13,000 with much of the work being done by voluntary labour and local businesses donating materials. The course opened unofficially in December 1980 and by the time it was officially opened on 21 February 1981, revenue had almost covered its original cost.
When it opened a round cost $1.00 with the profits being used for charitable purposes.
At a later date can-am racing cars and bumper boats joined the mini-putt course as attractions at the East End Reserve.
The facility deterorated over the years and it was finally removed in 2005. The site is now grassed and sits adjacent to the East End skate park.
