These gates to King Edward Park in Hāwera are located on the corner of High Street and Camberwell Road. At the final meeting of Hawera Industrial Exhibition Committee in May 1904 it was decided to donate the surplus funds to King Edward Park for the erection of memorial gates.

The Hawera & Normanby Star reported on 20 July 1904 that good progress was being made on the improvements to the park under the careful direction of Mr. C. Goodson.

On 3 August 1904 a four day carnival began including a football match and nightly entertainments. The gates were officially opened by the mayor, Mr. Robbins, on the afternoon of the first day in bitterly cold conditions.

The gates were made by founder and range maker S. Luke & Co. Ltd, of Wellington. (Hawera & Normanby Star 27 May 1904 p.3)
