A 52-metre timber footbridge over the Kaihihi Stream between Ōkato township and the Ōkato Domain. Built in 1913 by the Okato Roads Board, it is one of only three remaining multiple-rope suspension bridges in the country (Thornton, 2001).
On 28 June 1913 (p.7) the Taranaki Herald reported that local residents were concerned at the poor state of the Kaihihi Bridge and were asking for it to be urgently repaired or replaced. Only 7 weeks later the same newspaper (16 August 1913 p.5) it was reported that, "The bridge which has just been erected over the Kaihihi River is a decided improvement on the old one, and will be appreciated by those desiring to make full use of the domain".
