The Huatoki Domain dam was built by local Vogeltown residents and opened on 25 Feb 1929 by the Minister of Education, H Atmore.

The first pool was partially destroyed in a flood a few years afterwards. A repaired and upgraded facility was opened - with tennis courts -  by Mayor E C Gilmour, in February 1937.

The pool was closed in the 1960s and in the 1990s the dam was breached and a fish pass added to allow native fish access to the upper reaches of the stream.

In 1988 an attempt was made by Claire Harvey to re-open the pool but it was unsuccessful.
