The Elizabeth Wright Plunket Room at Rahotu was officially opened on 18 September 1937 with a crowd of 400 in attendance. The multi-purpose building (Plunket Room, rest room and large lobby for a library) was paid for by financial gifts, receipts from a recently concluded 'baby carnival' which had raised £241 and a large donation from the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union.
After a number of speeches Mr W.R. Wright (the husband of the largest individual donor, the late Mrs Elizabeth Wright - £100) cut a ribbon across the door, declaring the building officially open. Mr Wright also provided all the furniture for the Plunket Room.
After the opening, the crowning ceremony of the baby carnival was staged in the hall, Heather Green of Rahotu was judged the winner.
