Avery Reserve Plaque (1928)

This plaque marking the Avery Reserve is located near the end of Frank Wilson Terrace. 

The land was gifted to the local Scout Association by Mrs Eliza Avery in 1928. Along with her husband, Thomas, the Averys' were long-time supporters of the Scout movement in New Plymouth. The couple owned land on Avenue Road (later Coronation Avenue) and a section of this, bordering the Te Hēnui Stream, was used by the local scouts for camps. 

Scouting New Plymouth and North Taranaki : 100 years of scouting memories (2009) records that due to a variety of factors the potential of the site was never fully realized.

The reserve is now part of the Te Hēnui walkway.
