Broadway Chambers (1923)

This two-storey building in Princes Street was erected in 1923 for Messrs Casserly and Corcoran. It was designed by the Hāwera firm, Duffill and Gibson and the contractor was John Grant.

Until 1959 part of the ground floor was used as billiard hall, run latterly by Sid Fache. After his death it was converted into an Auction Mart operated by Les Whalen and Larry Rolands.

The upper storey has always been office space. The accountants Bruce Murray and Norm Ihle leased the building from Corcoran and Casserly, before finally buying it in 1959 (under the name of Little Miss Modern Limited). Eventually the whole ground floor was converted into offices. (Hawera Town Centre Heritage Inventory, June 1997)
